Download Jorvik

Version 1.0.16 for Windows, macOS and Linux, or open it in your browser with nothing to install.

New to Jorvik? Create an account on the sign-in screen. All it needs is an email address, to confirm it's you.

Your system

Windows

An installer that adds Jorvik to the Start menu and the tray.

Download for Windows Jorvik.Setup.1.0.16.exe
  1. Open the file you downloaded. Jorvik installs and starts by itself.
  2. If Windows says “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway. Jorvik's installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows doesn't recognise it.
  3. Closing the window keeps Jorvik running in the tray, so messages still reach you. To quit, right-click the tray icon and choose Quit Jorvik.

Updating: Jorvik doesn't update itself yet. Download the newest installer and run it over the old one.

Your system

macOS

One disk image for both Intel and Apple silicon Macs.

Download for macOS Jorvik-1.0.16-universal.dmg
  1. Open the disk image and drag Jorvik into Applications.
  2. The first time, macOS stops Jorvik from opening because it isn't signed by Apple yet. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to the message about Jorvik and click Open Anyway.
  3. If macOS says Jorvik “is damaged and can't be opened” instead, run this once in Terminal, then open Jorvik again:
    $ xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Jorvik.app

Updating: Jorvik doesn't update itself yet. Download the newest disk image and replace the copy in Applications.

Your system

Linux

For 64-bit PCs (x86_64). Pick the option that suits your distribution. The ones marked updates itself arrive with the rest of your system's updates.

Snap Updates itself

Any distribution with snapd.

$ sudo snap install jorvik

Then let Jorvik use your microphone, camera and saved passwords:

$ sudo snap connect jorvik:audio-record && sudo snap connect jorvik:camera && sudo snap connect jorvik:password-manager-service

Fedora Updates itself

From COPR.

$ sudo dnf copr enable xuruh/Jorvik && sudo dnf install jorvik

A new release not showing up yet? Run sudo dnf upgrade --refresh.

Arch Updates itself

From the AUR, with your AUR helper.

$ yay -S jorvik-bin

Or jorvik-git to build the latest code yourself.

Flatpak Manual updates

Downloads the bundle, then installs it. The first install also fetches its runtime from Flathub.

$ curl -LO https://github.com/jorvikapp/jorvik/releases/download/v1.0.16/Jorvik-1.0.16-x86_64.flatpak && flatpak install --user Jorvik-1.0.16-x86_64.flatpak

To update, install a newer release's file the same way.

AppImage Update with a tool

One file that runs on most distributions.

Download the AppImage

Make it runnable, then open it:

$ chmod +x Jorvik-1.0.16-x86_64.AppImage && ./Jorvik-1.0.16-x86_64.AppImage

To update it, use AppImageUpdate or Gear Lever.

Debian and Ubuntu Manual updates

A .deb package.

Download the .deb

Install it from the folder you saved it to:

$ sudo apt install ./Jorvik-1.0.16.deb

To update, install a newer release's file the same way.

Other RPM distributions Manual updates

An .rpm package for distributions without COPR. On Fedora, use COPR above so updates arrive by themselves.

Download the .rpm

Install it with your package manager, for example sudo zypper install ./Jorvik-1.0.16.rpm

Tarball Manual updates

Plain files, nothing installed.

Download the tarball

Extract it and run ./jorvik from the folder inside.

Installed a new version, but the old one still opens?

A copy you installed by hand, or an AppImage you added to the menu, can take precedence over the package. Look for it with ls ~/.local/share/applications | grep -i jorvik, delete what you find there along with any matching icons in ~/.local/share/icons, then run update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications.

Your device

Web

Nothing to install. Jorvik runs in any modern browser.

Open Jorvik chat.jorvik.app
  1. Open chat.jorvik.app and sign in, or create an account.
  2. Allow notifications when your browser asks, so you hear about new messages while the tab is in the background.

Updating: nothing to do. The web app is always the latest version.
